Sport England £10,000 Lottery Award for Southwold Sailing Club

by Jeremy Taylor 18 Mar 2015 16:38 GMT 18 March 2015

Southwold Sailing Club has received another £10,000 grant from Sport England for its 'Introduction to Racing' as a progression of its 'Learn to Sail' Programme.

With the Sport England Grant of £10,000 we have bought three fairly new Laser 2000's and trained instructors. It is our intention to teach people to race out at sea in Sole Bay on Sunday mornings. This programme will begin on Sunday June 7th at 10-30am.

Our 'Learn to Sail' programme starts on Saturday May 2nd with the Picos, a very safe single hander. This was very popular last year with over 31 people learning to sail. We teach people to sail on Saturdays, the other side of the Bailey Bridge, about an hour either side of high tide.

We have three RYA trained Dinghy Instructors and several people who have the necessary Power Boat qualifications who operate the Safety Boat.

Both programmes are free to members of Southwold Sailing Club, so if you want take part all you have to do is join the Club and you can take advantage of this fantastic opportunity.

To find out more about sailing at Southwold, why not attend our Open Day from midday on Saturday May 9th, Where as part of the Royal Yachting Associations "Push the Boat Out" campaign we will be offering free on the water taster sessions in a range of craft. The bar and galley will be open for refreshments and tours of the clubs facilities will be available.

For membership information please contact June Yeaman on 01502 380581 or at and we will explain how you can access these sessions.

All details about our club can be found on our website: www.southwoldsc.org Or you can up to date with all the latest news by following us on Facebook or Twitter.
