Miracle Southern Area Championship at Margate Yacht Club

by Jim Taylor 25 Jul 2005 16:08 BST 23-24 July 2005

Miracle sailors were given an opportunity to hone their sea sailing skills at Margate a week ahead of the Nationals at Brixham.

Fortunately the predicted rain for Saturday did not materialise and a south westerly force 2-3 backing to south almost immediately after the start of the first race resulted in a tight reach to the first mark. The eleven boat fleet stayed together for the first round with Ian and Sam Kelly, Brian Jones and John Green and Peter Horner and David Brooker eventually showing their superiority by pulling away and respectively finishing in first, second and third place.

Day two brought the predicted rain but also a welcome increase in wind up to force 3-4. Ian and Sam Kelly again took first place in race three with local sailors, Chris Hatcher and Andrew Hudson in second and Peter Horner and David Brooker in third places. Ian and Sam Kelly again finished first in race four and with minimum points in the bag retired from the final race. Brian Jones and John Green took the honours in race five.
