Dart 18 Travellers' Trophy at Runswick Bay Beach & Sailing Club

by Ben Willis & Geoff Lloyd 1 Jul 2015 10:46 BST 27-28 June 2015

Runswick Bay Beach and Sailing Club held their first UKIDA Dart 18 TT event in over 20 years as part of the UK-wide Dart 18 Travellers Trophy Series last weekend. Visitors came from far and wide, North, South, East and West - Dundee to Cornwall and Bridlington to The Wirral. Twenty-six boats battled for position over the two days with 52 competitors vying for four trophies.

The sunny weather held up throughout the weekend of racing and social activities, although conditions were more favourable on Saturday. Racing started with a variable 2-4 Westerly blowing across the bay with the high cliffs making for some challenging conditions. Both local knowledge and skill seemed to pay, and there were three different winners for the three races. Dan & Amy Teubert from Restronguet SC proved the most consistent and led overnight. The perfect sunny evening led into a hog roast and live music well into the night.

Sunday morning dawned with clearing clouds and a Southerly wind gusting up to 30 knots leading to a two hour delay. The sun came out and the wind moderated in time for the fleet to get one race in, and Dan & Amy led from the gun to take another bullet and confirm their first Dart TT win with local sailor Mike Gomme crewed by Sara Stones in second.

The prize giving took place in glorious sunshine in front of the clubhouse to round off a near perfect weekend of sailing and partying! All the competitors appreciated the efforts the club members put in to making the event a success and the fleet will certainly return soon. A big thank you to all who sailed and helped throughout the weekend.

Studies in concentration A lot happened on the final day of Poole Week 2024. The wind was in one of its light and fickle moods, the tide was ebbing for the first starts, and the harbour was busy with traffic that had been mercifully light earlier in the week. Posted on 31 Aug 2024

Fickle winds and fluctuating fortunes Wednesday was to have been a day of round-the-harbour courses for most of the fleets racing in Poole Week. The Dolphins and Cornish Shrimpers tend to sail round-the-harbour courses anyway - none of this triangle/sausage business for them. Posted on 29 Aug 2024
