The Lapwing Championships was held over the weekend of 8-9th August, at Aldeburgh Yacht Club. Fourteen boats raced in 4 races over 2 days, in near perfect conditions.

Bruce Robson in Hummingbird was a worthy winner, finishing 1st in 3 races, but racing was competitive, with the teenage crew of Bethan Matthews and Lily Lewington winning the final race in Quail. Overall, Bethan and Lily narrowly beat Bethan's father Duncan sailing Skua with her brother Scotty as crew, into 3rd place. Special mention must go to Robert Ritchie, with a changing selection of his children crewing, who came fourth in Tufted, a boat which had only just been put back on the water after a decade in a garage. John Fildes, who came 7th overall also deserves special mention for bringing his Lapwing, Kingfisher, up from Bosham in West Sussex.

The Lapwing Class Dinner was held on the Saturday evening in the Aldeburgh Yacht Club clubhouse, and was a wonderful occasion of Lapwing chat and good cheer, starting with live fiddle music provided by Tilly Mattich and continuing late into the evening with good food and fine wine.

The Lapwing Class is returning to life at the moment, with almost double the number of boats at this year's Championships compared to last. Next year we are hoping to see 20 boats on the start line at the Championship Weekend, and even more competitive racing.
