National Redwing Championship at Looe Sailing Club - Overall

by Paul Sedgbeer 29 Aug 2015 15:21 BST 22-28 August 2015

The final day's racing for the Redwings was a welcome change to the earlier part of the week with clear blue skies and a pleasant south westerly breeze making the job of Race Officer Dominic Lozynski fairly easy in laying a good course in Looe Bay.

Looking along the start line was a sailing connoisseurs delight as the beautiful wooden red sailed dinghies jostled for position.

Race leader at the windward mark was Paul Dunn helming his new boat Red Kite with Gareth Shaw on the wire, followed by Colin Crabb and Adam Hayler. As the race progressed Crabb closed the gap until the final leg up to the finishing line when in a tacking match he capsized giving Dunn a clear run to the line with Peter Kinver and Joe Palfrey taking advantage of Crabbs misfortune to nip in for second place with Dave Jackman and John Crabb in third spot.

The race in general became one of two halves with the lower end of the fleet having their own battles for places.

The presentations were held in Looe Sailing Club later in the evening after a memorable week that saw a variety of weather conditions.
