International Canoe UK Nationals at Stone Sailing Club - Overall

by Gareth Caldwell 7 Sep 2015 08:17 BST 3-6 September 2015

The wind had dropped, the sun had come out, and the fleet set off down tide to the start area. San Fransisco had nothing on these sailing conditions! Boats that had remained upright at the Worlds were capsizing at will during the last two races.

The wind was again from the north shore, and there were again massive fluctuations in both strength and direction... from end of the seat planing in some boats, to standing in the boat drifting... all within a few metres of each other.

Consistency, mixed with a large dose of good fortune, were the ingredients of the day. Noticeable 'highlights' of the day were Al Warren leading by 500m, and then sitting in the hole of all holes as the fleet caught up and sailed past. And Liam Gardner showing the fleet how it should be done and leading around the windward mark in a boat built in 1971.

With both races completed in the morning, the results were all put into the Stone melting pot, and the presentations awarded.

The International Canoe fleet would like to thank Stone Sailing Club for the well run racing, and the friendliness and helpfulness shown by its members.

Robin Wood retained his National title in the IC with Al Warren second and Gareth Caldwell third. Phil Allen won the AC class with Dave Timpson second and Steve Bowen third.
