Fleet and handicap racing every weekend at Frensham, all through the winter © Clive Eplett
The only thing that stops us sailing at Frensham is when the Pond freezes over and the Ranger says we cannot break up the ice because it gives the fish a headache. Getting blown-off does not happen for us, we just get out there and make the most of it.
Like other clubs, we have winter memberships available, cost £97, including berthing. The winter race programme runs up to the end of March and comprises:
Saturday - General Handicap, 2.4m, Cadet and Tera/Laser 4.7 races, first start at 2pm.
Sunday - We have a General Handicap at 12:15pm, straddled by class racing morning (10:30) and afternoon (2pm), alternating Laser and Ent class starts in one flight and Solo, GP and Handicap (Phantoms, RS200, Lark, OK, RS100 and various others).
Hence there is the opportunity to race 3 times across the weekend.
Launching from our multiple jetties is always rather civilised, no need for wet feet launching here. More to the point, a race really is never over until it's over here; you cannot relax for a minute with competition to be found whether you are usually at the front, middle or back of the fleet. Your mark rounding, tacks, gybes and general boat-handling will definitely get a major work-out.
