Arundells to host second series of Morning Cloud Talks

by Hannah Lane 20 Mar 2016 11:19 GMT 19 May 2016

After a successful inaugural year, the Sir Edward Heath Charitable Foundation and the Friends of Arundells are delighted to announce that the second session of Morning Cloud Talks on sailing will be held on Thursday, 19th May 2016. The speakers will be:

  • Michael Boyd – Commodore of the Royal Ocean Racing Club
  • Jamie Matheson – Part owner of the yacht Mariquita' and owner of 'Opposition'
  • The Honourable Christopher Sharples – Commodore of the Royal Yacht Squadron
Members of the Morning Cloud racing crews will also be on hand in the Arundells Sailing Room to share their experiences of winning trophies with Edward Heath as their skipper.

Lord Hunt of Wirral, Chairman of the Foundation commented: 'Last year we were delighted to welcome Sir Ben Ainslie and Giles Chichester to Arundells. Ted Heath was one of the most successful ocean racers of his generation and delivered victories for Britain in the Sydney to Hobart race and the Admiral's Cup. We are pleased to be hosting a number of sailing-related events at Arundells in 2016 and to be able to bring together a stellar cast of yachtsmen.'

The Morning Cloud Talks provide a forum for the sharing of great moments in British sailing over the last fifty years. The idea for the talks came from the unveiling of the restored bow of the third Morning Cloud in the garden of Arundells by Sir Ben Ainslie in May 2015. In autumn 2015 the first round of talks was led by Giles Chichester, son of Sir Francis Chichester, who was the first man to complete the first solo circumnavigation of the world in May 1967 after 226 days of sailing.

Admission is by ticket only. Tickets are £30 (to include refreshments, a light lunch and a tour of Arundells). Advance booking is essential as places are strictly limited. Proceedings will be launched at 11 a.m. To apply for tickets please contact arundellssailing2016@gmail.com or call 07921 800533.
