The North West Senior Travellers enjoyed their annual trip to the seaside on Tuesday for the 5th round of the series on Southport marine lake. It couldn't have been better planned with wall-to-wall sunshine, temperatures in excess of 30 degrees and a decent breeze. Champagne sailing in the North West!
Racing was exciting throughout the sixteen boat fleet with many place changes made possible by the lively easterly wind funnelling down the adjacent streets and between the islands.
However, it was the Bolton Supernovas of Andy Flitcroft and Tony Critchley who were quick to master the conditions and were never out of the top two. Andy took overall honours (his first event in the series) by just one point.
The other podium position was taken by Dave Turtle from Gresford in his Streaker having exchanged places all day with the Solo of Dave Woodhead from Elton.
The top five was rounded off by Simon Reddecliffe, also in a Streaker, from Delph who sailed consistently throughout.
Steve and Liz Marsh (RS200) were the best placed double-hander with a fine display of spinnaker work and Ted James (RS Vareo) was first Veteran.
There are just two events left in the series with the next at Leigh and Lowton on Tuesday 13th September.
