Bridlington based, Royal Yorkshire Yacht Club has unveiled plans for the 2016 sailing programme with the announcement of further investment and refurbishment of their Blyth Park Dinghy site.
The work carried out to improve the site includes a fully equipped training unit and changing room facility for the specific use of the cadet contingent of the club. Dinghy storage space for around 20 club owned boats has been added, and two 2-man and four 1-man kayaks, specifically for the cadet's use, have also been purchased. Investment has included the construction of a new slipway and refreshed signage making the site easier to locate.
Funding for the project came with the assistance of a Holderness Coast Flag grant which embraces Access to Sailing supported by European Fisheries Fund, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, The Marine Management Organisation and Royal Yorkshire Yacht Club funds.
"It's been a lot of hard work on behalf of the club and the supporting organisations, whom we thank for all their help, but it's been worth the effort. We now have a sailing facility that can handle our growth in numbers, especially in our youth cadet section which has grown substantially over the last few years. It's good to see the youngsters taking an interest, as after all they are the future Ben Ainslies and the future of our club", said Steve Stanton, RYYC Commodore.
The site development has enabled the club to offer weekend camping and caravanning to visiting sailors for a small fee. Sailors are invited to "drop anchor" with Royal Yorkshire Yacht club from Friday night to Sunday evening.
