After an extensive refurbishment programme starting Over the Winter of 2015/2016, Marconi Sailing Club are pleased to announce the latest addition to their fleet of club boats.
The arrival of Robber 3e class "Ned Kelly" is the culmination of the determination and hard work of a committed team of Marconi members to bring the boat from its dilapidated state in the depths of the hedges at the club to take its rightful place providing hours of pleasure sailing and racing on the River Blackwater.
Following a successful Autumn Cruiser Racing Series at Marconi in 2015, a need was identified for the club to be able to provide a suitable, safe and stable vessel for members and guests alike to try their hand at cruiser sailing and to ultimately partake in the aforementioned race series. "Ned Kelly" has been in the club for a number of years but more recently had been left abandoned on site. Marconi duly got together the necessary funds and as importantly, a willing group of volunteers who have spent many icy winter days bringing the boat back to its former glory with tasks including re-rigging, installing 21st century Navigational equipment and re-fitting the interior.
Ned Kelly enjoyed its re-born maiden voyage earlier this season and has had much use since then. With the Autumn 2016 Racing Season now underway, she joins a fleet of 6 other racing boats to create a healthy championship for club racers.
