12 November 2016
After what turned out to be a drizzly morning, the afternoon was starting to brighten up just in time for a 13:30 start for the Fleetwood Dragon's second Winter Series race.
We had nine skippers in at the beginning, dropping down to seven by the end of the 9th race due to mechanical problems. Garry from the Benson brothers was helping his brother Michael with his expertise.
David Foster travelled in from Furness as a guest skipper for the day. Fleetwood club welcomes visiting model yacht lovers for at least a couple of friendly races. It is only when they become a threat to the locals and want to run away with the prize trophies are they then asked to join. Why sail out on a limb by yourself when you can be having fun with the rest of the like minded.
It was Chris Haworth that was stringing up most of the first places. Garry got one and John Plant got the other 2 firsts.
John with his old stock boat as is from new with still all the same original gear and sails from over 2 years now, had one of the races won by at least a good 50 meters.
Winter Series Day 2 Results: (top three)
1 Chris Haworth
2 John Plant
3 Garry Benson
Next Df65 is in a fortnight Saturday 26th November.again at 13:30
On the horizon in the next couple of weeks at Fleetwood we have 2 events scheduled for the bigger brother Dragon Flight 95.
- Sunday 27th November 10:15am
- Sunday 11th December 10:15am
It looks like we should have a year's worth of sailing for these new boats when the diary comes out for 2017, fingers crossed. We may end up with a slight dilution of our other classes, but gain a total new group and probably more as members like to have a multitude of crafts.
