Sailors turned chefs for Dominant BBQ Cook-Off at Goolwa Regatta Week

Another day of glamour conditions in Goolwa was the perfect backdrop for tonight's Dominant BBQ Cook Off.

There was a relaxed vibe at the Goolwa Regatta Yacht Club this evening after a day off from sailing any sailing. Participants came down to the Goolwa Regatta Yacht Club either to compete in the BBQ Cook-Off or just to enjoy a meal and socialise with other sailors.

Rules for the cook-off. sponsored by Dominant Chemicals, were:

All food must be prepared and cooked on site on a BBQ, with a maximum of three hours cooking time available.

The food was to be on the judges' table at 7pm for judging.

The competitors had three categories to choose from, some entered in one and others entered in all three.

The three categories were:

  • What can you do with a chicken?
  • Your favourite dish on a boat
  • Creative nautical dessert
With those competing taking the competition in their stride, the rest of the crowd turned up just for the social side and thoroughly enjoyed watching the cook-off and listening to the live music.

All the meals looked absolutely delicious and the creative desserts were certainly that.

We also spoke to the event sponsors, Julie and Chris Short from Dominant Chemicals, who have been attending the event for a number of years.

After originally participating in the cook-off themselves, they are now proud to be sponsors of the event, while Julie is also one of the judges.
