Team Seldén-sponsored sailor Luke Patience and his crew, Chris Grube, have won the Men's 470 Gold at the World Cup in Miami.
Using a Seldén Cumulus section, manufactured in Seldén's new XPS aluminium, the triumphant pair finished with a 27-point lead over the silver medallists, Kevin Peponnet and Jeremie Mion of France.
Seldén Mast Ltd Managing Director, Steve Norbury said: "We are absolutely thrilled with the result and for Luke. We have worked closely with him to ensure he has the best possible set up. Our new, finer parabolic taper provides a more responsive top section and our Ultima boom has been optimised specifically for the 470 class rules to provide maximum vertical stiffness."
"The Ultima boom section uses the minimum wall thickness in the side walls with more material in the top and bottom," continues Steve. "Removing the lower track has reduced weight and increased efficiency and the sheet and vang fittings are permanently positioned. This boom also uses our XPS alloy as it is both harder and stronger."
All Seldén spars are CNC drilled for ultimate accuracy and the cap-shroud T terminals are now accurate to 0.1mm side-to-side for super straight set up.
Technical Account Manager, Sam Vaughan also commented on the win: "The Gold at the World Cup demonstrates that our accuracy and consistency really set our dinghy spars apart from others on the market. We have worked closely with Luke on the 470, but we are also able to do this with other classes."
"All the customised features, such as extended goose-necks and fully adjustable spreaders, are available on all Seldén spars where the class rules allow," adds Sam. "We design and develop our products after carefully analysing feedback from some of the world's top dinghy sailors to ensure we get the best rig for every boat. Our new XPS alloy is just one such example of this.
So, whether it's a production one design spar or an ultimate Gold medal winning rig you require, if you want to win – go Seldén – Luke did, and the result speaks for itself!"
