The six boat Volvo Ocean race fleet are now making fast time heading south east at over 20kts. According to the latest position sched. the lead group of two (MAPFRE and Team Brunel) are closely bunched with Dongfeng racing 19nm behind and Turn the Tide on Plastic only 19nm off the lead.

Team Akzonobel and SHK Scallywag who made an early bid to head north and pick the the breeze are around 60nm behind the leaders - which is sufficient for them to be able to take a different course through the The Doldrums and pull back the time, once they see how the front runners cope in the Convergence Zone.

See the latest Volvo OR Live video plus Scallywag 'fess up on their opening moves in the leg and why they didn't pay the anticipated dividend.
