The RS Elite fleet gets its 2018 inter-club racing season under way with the Southern Area Championships to be held in the Eastern Solent over the weekend of 9-10 June.

Hosted jointly by Bembridge Sailing Club and Sea View Yacht Club, the event is part of the East Wight Combined Clubs' series and forms part of the Elite Class' Grand Slam Series, which also includes the National Championship hosted by the Royal North of Ireland Yacht Club from 28th June and Lendy Cowes Week in August.

The event will consist of three races per day on both Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th June, to be sailed over windward-leeward courses, with a party for this highly sociable class on the Saturday night. Race management will be provided by Seaview Yacht Club and the Saturday night social event is being organized by Bembridge Sailing Club, the reverse of last year's debut arrangements.

The Elites are returning to this highly popular venue following an enjoyable open event in 2017, when visitors from the Hayling and Cowes fleets enjoyed competitive racing and socializing over a sunny June weekend. Easily accessible from Cowes and Hayling, the East Wight event is fast becoming an established part of the Elite Calendar.

Full details including the Notice of Race and entry form are available on the RS Elite class website, rselite.org.
