Scottish Topper Travellers Round 5 at Clyde Cruising Club, Bardowie

by Orri Robertson 16 May 2018 08:18 BST 12-13 May 2018

It was an early Saturday morning start and we headed off to Bardowie but when we got there it was like a mirror, we rigged our boats, grabbed a bacon roll and waited for some wind but the AP flag went up.

Eventually they let us go out on the water just to have some fun but then the wind filled in and we started a race but just as quickly the wind disappeared and racing was abandoned for the day.

Sunday morning I woke up just as early and went back to the sailing club but when I got there, there was no wind again but it was due to pick up around about lunch time. Early afternoon we went afloat to start our first race as the wind filled in.

In race one I had a decent start but when we were halfway down to the leeward mark the race was abandoned. In race one take two the wind had picked up slightly and we started off again, I had another decent start but was caught in the middle of the fleet but by the second lap at the leeward mark I was in 6th place and managed to push it to a 3rd at the finish.

Race two was a really bad start for some including me, and I didn't recover during the race and ended up 8th.

Race three was very close, beating up the centre helped me a lot and I rounded the windward mark 5th. The beat up to the finish line was very close and I just got the 3rd by a couple of seconds.

Thank you to the club and organisers for hosting the event. And a weekend of fun.
