Weymouth Dinghy Regatta 2018

by Tony Dobbs 12 Jul 2018 16:50 BST 7-8 July 2018

Last weekend 74 dinghies competed in the Yacht Clubs of Weymouth Dinghy Regatta held at Castle Cove Sailing Club. Race officer Iain Jones and his team managed to run the full schedule of races - three on Saturday and three Sunday, in near perfect conditions, although some competitors might have wanted stronger winds.

The competitors were divided into classes with Fireballs (8 boats) won by Christina and Alan Tyler of Lyme Regis, Phantoms (9 boats) won by Nick Orman of Castle Cove SC, Scorpions (8 boats) won by John Mursell and Richard Bowers of Castle Cove SC, and Ospreys (17 boats) won by Ben and Simon Hawkes of Castle Cove SC. There were also two general classes of Slow (21 boats) won by Becca Stephens and Jeremy Stephens, and Fast (11 boats) won by Jill and Andrew Peters of Queen Mary SC.

"The event was a great success and I would like to thank all the competitors for attending, the volunteers who ran the event, and our sponsors Portland port and the Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy for their continued support." said Richard Bowers, the local organiser. "There is little doubt that the Weymouth and Portland area provides a perfect setting for this type of event."
