2019 is a year full of superlatives in the sailing world. The Kieler Woche is the biggest sailing party on the planet and one day earlier, on the longest day of the year, the longest sailing regatta on the Baltic Sea launches again.

The 4th MidsummerSail will get off to a blast when the traditional sailing ship, the Wissemara, fires its canon for the start of the race at 1:00 pm on June 21st. A record number of competitors will be taking part as 18 yachts and at least 39 sailors attempt to navigate the 900 nautical miles from the southernmost point to the northernmost point of the Baltic Sea.

The current record from Wismar to Toere, is 6 days, 12 hours, 23 minutes, 47 seconds and was set by Universitas of the ASVzR. With this record the crew won the German Offshore Youth Award 2017.

This year not only German sailors want to face the toughest challenge on the Baltic Sea. There are also yachts from Switzerland and Sweden on the starting list. Three prizes can be won: a trophy and one thousand euros for the fastest ship, for the smallest ship and for the smallest crew at the finish.

However, the biggest reward is to be able to stand triumphant on the famous yellow buoy, the northernmost point. The past year has proven how difficult that can be to achieve. Only one sailor made it to the finish.

Be there when the greatest adventure of the Baltic Sea begins.
