Igor Rytov, at the helm of Russian Bogatyrs, is the winner of the first leg of the long European season of the Melges 20 World League, confirming himself as one of the top teams in the fleet.

Igor Rytov is not new to these results as he has always been, with great continuity, at the top of the Class in which he won the title of Melges World League Champion and European Champion in 2017. With today's victory Rytov does nothing but add a new success to his long and great collection.

The placement on the top step of the podium for the Russian team has matured all through the weekend and in the extreme and spectacular conditions of yesterday in which Rytov took the lead with a perfect performance.

In today's only regatta, Russian Bogatyrs was able to control the opponents, keeping them at a safe distance scoring an excellent second place in the race that saw the success of the Argentinian Boogie by Pierluigi Giannattasio (with Giulio Desiderato on tactics).

Boogie, in the event of Villasimius, gets the best results of his career: the victory in a race and the second place in a leg of the Melges 20 World League. The young crew is, at the moment, the most brilliant surprise of this season beginning.

The podium of the first continental event is completed by the current champion of the European circuit Brontolo Racing by Filippo Pacinotti (assisted in the tactical choices by Manuel Weiller) that confirmed the same levels of performance as last year.

In the Corinthian division, the success goes to the Italians of Siderval by Marco Giannini (seventh in the general ranking) that preceded the Russian crew Alex Team of Alexander Mikhaylik.

With this success, Russian Bogatyrs also consolidates its leadership in the international ranking of the Melges 20 World League.

Tactician Kostantin Besputin of Russian Bogatyrs - "It was a very complicated race especially for the challenging conditions of yesterday and therefore we are extremely happy for the result obtained. A victory conquered in a fleet that is always confirmed at the highest level. Racing in this context is an honor considering the history and the technical abilities of the competitors that forced us to really give everything to be able to achieve this success."

The spotlight of the Melges 20 World League is now moving on Asia, Japan, where the sixth round of the 2019 international circuit will be held (in Akya from 18 to 19 May) while Europe will return to be the protagonist from 24 to 26 May with the appointment of Puntaldia, North-Eastern Sardinia.

The Melges 20 World League European Division is proudly supported by North Sails, Helly Hansen, Tirrenia, Quantum, Garmin Marine, La Thuile, Xpouf, Rocket Performance, Revi, Loison, Rigoni di Asiago, Dai Dai, Norda, Le Formiche di Fabio Vettori.

Learn to love sailing in heavy air
If sailing in breeze isn't your strong suit, you are not alone When I was about ten years old I starting racing sailboats on Cape Cod and the sound of the wind whistling overnight through the pine trees outside my bedroom would make it hard to sleep.
