The first round of the Freestyle discipline on the GKA Kite World Tour took place last week at Leucate on the Mediterranean coast of France and provided a real test for the riders and event crew.
The region's dominant wind is the northwest Tramontana, but last week's prevailing winds were strong southerlies, which were obstructed by the headland at the event's original destination, La Franqui. So all heats were packed into the last two days of the event window after the crew and livestream team pulled off the huge challenge of re-locating 20 minutes south to Port Leucate.
After a fantastic two days in super-challenging 30 - 35+ knot winds, Carlos Mario and Francesca Bagnoli emerged as victors.
