The Melges MC Scow is quietly one of the largest one-design fleets in North America. The class is a welcoming group of people focused on fun and learning, and the boat is simple, stable, and fast!
There are many opportunities locally, regionally or nationally to sail your MC all year long. Sail in your local fleet regularly. Travel to events to meet new people and gain racing experience against larger fleets.
Each year the racing calendar of MC sailing is jam-packed! In the winter, the MC fleet calls Lake Eustis, Florida its home. Leave your boat in Florida over the winter and race in weekly Lake Eustis Sailing Club races as well as the Triple Crown Series of three regattas including the MC Midwinter Championship, one of the class's largest regattas each year.
The National Championship is always held at a different location around the country. This year, the 49th annual championship will be hosted by Minnetonka Yacht Club on Lighthouse Island in Minnesota. Next year, the 50th Annual National Championship will be held on Lake Geneva 2020.
Most recently in the past it has also been held in Texas, Michigan, South Carolina, Iowa, and more. The MC is a widespread fleet over 100 local fleets all across North America!
The MC has its roots in family sailing. Local yacht club racing and casual family sailing are rock-solid essential factors to the MC's sustained success. An original design by the Melges family in 1956, the boat is fun both single-handed and double-handed From the very beginning, it was designed to be simple to sail alone yet comfortable to bring a family member on board. It's the perfect boat to pass the love of the sport on to the next generation!
