K6 Eurocup at Circolo Velico AVAL-CDV, Lake Como - half-way report

The K6 fleet decided they'd like a change of venue for their bi-annual European Regatta, so 20 boats are currently here in the stunning surroundings of Gravedona, Northern Lake Como. The friendly club of AVAL-CDV are being the perfect hosts, as ever. It's hotter than Hades, so the best place to be is in a F4 breeze, sailing three exciting races/day whilst trying not to be distracted by the wonderful scenery.

The excellent race team are keeping everyone on their toes, turning races around so fast that they are sending RIBs around to tell us to stop us snacking and get ready for the next race.

After three days of racing, the Birbeck Brothers - Steve & Ross - are running away with the event, with five race wins from eight races. It isn't being made easy for them, however, with very close racing throughout the fleet.

Day one was fabulous for the other brother team - George & Guenter Blatnig - who put in two second places after reading the lake perfectly, having already cycled 50km.

The other race winners, Dave Hall & Graham Hoy on day 2 and John Adcroft & Steve Dewberry and Fraser Elms & Georgie Smith & Heather Chipperfield on day 3 have been celebrating hard.

Two more days to go; five more races, one more discard. There's everything to play for. And, of course, loads of gelato, pasta, vino, divertimento.
