St. Petersburg to host RS:X Youth Worlds 2019

by Alexey Zhirov 31 Jul 2019 19:01 BST 4-10 August 2019

From 4 to 10 August in the Park of the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg will host the world championship in Windsurfing Class RS:X among junior sportsmen.

For the first time the yacht club of St. Petersburg hosts world-class competitions in the Olympic sailing class. Regattas for young men and ladies will be held in two age categories - up to 19 years old and up to 17 years old.

"For us, the Yacht club of St. Petersburg, it is a great honor to host the strongest athletes of our country, Europe and the world, - says the commander of the Yacht club of St. Petersburg Vladimir Lubomirov. - St. Petersburg is a city that is made for sailors. One of our main tasks is to promote St. Petersburg as a unique place for sailing competitions of the highest level. The RS:X Junior world championship is the main sailing event of this summer."

World Junior Championship RS:X Class

In the World Junior Championship 103 sportsmen from 19 countries will take part. Athletes from Russia, Israel, Turkey, Hong Kong, Holland, Greece, Spain, USA, Italy, France, Thailand, Japan, Great Britain, Poland, Philippines, Belarus, Cyprus, Estonia and Oman arel coming to St. Petersburg.

The greatest presence at competitions will hold Russia (18 athletes), Israel (17) and France (12).

From 4 to 10 August, the best young windsurfers of the world will compete in the water area near the Park of the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg. The Frenchman Fabien Pianasa will arrive in the Northern capital of Russia to defend his title that he had won last year. He is the main favorite of the world championship. Already this season Fabien won the European championship in the class RS:X among juniors and Youth Sailing World Championships.

The main rival of Fabien Pianasa is Italian athlete Nicolo Renna. Last year, he took third place in the world championship in the RS:X class among juniors, and also won the silver medal of the Youth Olympic games. A few weeks ago at Youth Sailing World Championships Renna lost Pianese 10 points and again finished in the second place. In St. Petersburg, Italian sportsman will try to take the revenge. Another confrontation between the two major talents of world-Windsurfing - Pianasa and Renno - the main intrigue of the championship of the world.

All hopes of the Russian fans will be connected with the Moscow sportswoman Yana Reznikova. At the last Youth Sailing World Championships, she won silver, losing only to Israeli Lina Gheva. In St. Petersburg, both of these young athletes will fight for gold again. We hope that the home water area will help Reznikova to take the first place.
