Nik Baker at start of The Times Clipper 2000 Yacht Race

NIK BAKER - WORLD INDOOR WINDSURFING CHAMPION TO PERFORM AT THE START OF THE TIMES CLIPPER 2000 YACHT RACE

World Indoor Windsurfing Champion and Britain's best windsurfer, Nik Baker, will be performing at the start of The Times Clipper 2000 Round The World Yacht Race on Sunday, 15th October at Port Solent, Portsmouth. Scheduled to appear at 11.15am, Nik will be sailing a Mistral Freestyle Board and performing in a free-style windsurf display off Southsea Castle.

By the time he was 15, Nik Baker, had won the UK Under 19 Windsurfing Championships. Now 28, Nik has been indoor World Windsurfing Champion five times. Overall in outdoor windsurfing, Nik is ranked 6th in the Professional Windsurfing Association (PWA) World Tour. Pending on weather conditions, Nik's display will be between 15 and 30 minutes. With the chop off Southsea quite steep and many support boats churning up the water, the conditions are expected to be lumpy, making for a particularly dramatic performance.

The eight-strong fleet of identical 60ft yachts, competing in this year's prestigious Race are set to sail out of Port Solent from 0800 onwards for the official race start at 12 noon off Southsea Castle, Portsmouth. The race start, sponsored by Gunwharf Quays and Portsmouth City Council, is organised by Clipper Ventures Plc in conjunction with Portsmouth Harbour Events Ltd and the weekend of waterside celebrations, 13th - 15th October, will also include an air display, live music, street entertainment and a power boat display.
