The inaugural Belt and Road International Regatta wrapped up after final day's race in Langkawi, Malaysia on January 11th.

Prime minister Mahathir bin Mohamad of Malaysia was part of this high-profile closing ceremony and banquet, which also included Malaysian royal members and high officials from China.

With over 200 sailors from 20+ countries participating, the competition set sail from Thailand, through China, Singapore and finally with a grand finale in Langawi of Malaysia.

For the Malaysia section of the regatta, the 5-day competition that took place in Langkawi, team Phoenix of Thailand and team Beihai of China locked in the tight race. Although first to cross the finishing, Beihai eventually settled for the 2nd place with only 1 second short in total scoring. Phoenix took the champion title.

Organised by city of Beihai China, this first ever event is aimed to promote more economic and cultural exchanges, through sporting events like this, building strong ties among the Belt and Road countries. This Belt and Road event effectively helped in establishing Chinese city of Beihai as part of the Marine Silk Road chain.
