The Bexhill Sailing Club hosted its first Open for Comets on 23rd July. The Open was run in conjunction with an Open for the Topaz. The weather was perfect sunny, steady winds and a flat sea.
BSC’s fleet of Comets was joined by 4 visiting boats. The BSC Comets could not make the home advantage count and the days racing was dominated by John Windibank (Chipstead) who won all the races.
There was some competition for the second place but Henry Jaggers (Beer) ceded the second place only once during the day when Chris Robinson (Burghfield) pipped him in the third race. The best racing was between Jeffrey Smith (Crawley Mariners) and Bexhill’s Barry O’Herlihy. Despite some close tussles, Barry was only able to wrest the fourth place from Jeffrey in the third race.
