Mozzy Sails talks us through making your own soft shackles and regripping RS800 racks

Making a soft shackle from Dyneema © Thomas Morris

Thomas Morris has been improving his RS800 for some time now, and has shared his best tips and techniques in a series of videos.

The first one we look at here is how to make your own soft shackle from Dyneema. Thomas wanted these for the Harken FLY soft-attach 18 blocks he was using, as an improvement over the longer, and weaker, sewn loops.

To make the diamond knot there is a separate video tutorial to watch, once you need it.

We also enjoyed Thomas' video on a re-grip of the RS800 racks which are looking flawless now. He's using a product from Rooster Sailing which he rates highly: Brushed EVA Self Adhesive Deck Grip. The beauty of his finished work is due to his careful application, but we don't recommend his idea of drinking neat acetone.
