You couldn't get much more grass-roots than this! Volunteers at Drummoyne Sailing Club in Sydney have taken advantage of the enforced break in club activities (in groups of two as required for social distancing) to help rejuvenate the lower car park.

28 tonnes of high-quality topsoil is being shovelled and barrowed into place by hand to cover bare patches and stimulate regrowth. Sydney's gentle Autumn rains and mild temperatures are helping to accelerate the re-greening.

A special kind of seed is being employed that is resistant to high traffic but does not contain runners so will not spread out of control. Trenches have been dug and ag-pipes installed bedded in gravel to ensure good drainage and no puddles. To follow our progress, check our webcam.

Just because we may not be able to go sailing doesn't mean we should let the grass grow under our feet - or perhaps it does!
