Shoreham SC Covid-19 Virtual Wednesday Series - Day 3

Writing meaningful reports for a five minute virtual race whilst also trying to maintain some sort of credibility on the race course, and not forgetting to screen-grab the results is definitely more challenging than a typical Wednesday evening race at Shoreham SC, but its good fun and good chat, even if we are missing the after-race barbecues (and the actual sailing in perfect conditions). We travelled the virtual globe this week, racing in Italy, France, Australia and America, and still Richard Harrison retains his position on the top of both leader-boards.

We have yet to see youngsters Reuben Hudson and Alex Harrison on the (real) water at Shoreham this year and hope that their virtual skills are a reflection of what we will be competing against. Both certainly have an eye for a good start and a virtual shift, and Reuben won the day in the second series with only 4 points.

In the J70 series, race wins went to Richard Harrison with two, the other going to Megan Pascoe. They were joined on the race podiums by Gareth Griffiths, Rob Janering, William Warren and Reuben Hudson. With Richard sitting comfortably at the top of the leader-board, Megan has leapfrogged Reuben to take second, knocking Will Carroll out of the top three - will we see him splash out on a new boat and/or livery next week?

Racing in Nacras and 49ers, the usual carnage ensued on the start-line (and around the course for some). Both Reuben and Alex won their first races of the series, and were joined by Richard. The usual suspects filled the podium, but overall its Richard leading Will, then Megan.

Results after Day 3:

Series 1
R Harrison - 11pts
M Pascoe - 19pts
R Hudson - 22pts
W Carroll - 24pts
G Griffiths - 26pts

Series 2
R Harrison - 9pts
W Carroll - 17pts
M Pascoe - 21pts
P Walker - 22pts
W Warren - 25pts

Winning by chapters of the Frank Bethwaite book To probably misquote Frank Bethwaite, 'If in doubt, sail towards the wind...'. As I'm only on Chapter 3 of Higher Performance Sailing, perhaps evaluating exactly where the wind if from is covered in Chapter 4.... Posted on 20 Jun 2023
