24-26 September 2020
The third act of the Melges 32 World League, hosted by Marina di Scarlino thanks to the joint organization of Melges Europe and Club Nautico Scarlino, ends with another exciting day, characterized by strong winds and steep waves.
The winner of the event is Martin Reintjes' Caipirinha, elected World Champion no later than a month ago in the waters of Villasimius and already winner of the seasonal warm-up in July in Malcesine.
"Another victory full of satisfaction - commented Reintjes - where once again consistency in results was rewarded. Scarlino put us to the test in demanding conditions, but the crew was able to maintain concentration at all times. I want to thank all my boys and make an appointment with the rest of the fleet in Cala Galera, to compete for the title of the Melges World League in the final seasonal event."
On the podium, in second place, we find Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio with G-Spot, who found the preferred conditions for racing in today's strong wind and, with 2-1 partial scores, recovered important positions in the standings, up to obtaining the silver medal. Third place for Homanit by Gordon Nickel and Maximilian Stein, also winners in the Corinthian category.
With the end of the event of Scarlino, the fleet heads to the Argentario, where from 29 to 31 October it will compete for the fourth event of the Melges World League in the waters of Cala Galera. At the end of the three days of racing, the name of who will succeed Caipirinha in the list of winners of the Melges World League will be determined.
