With a resurgence of interest in the Medina 20 class following the resurrection of the Medina Association a few years ago, a strong Medina fleet has developed at East Lothian Yacht Club, based at North Berwick on the Firth of Forth. ELYC were therefore delighted to host this years National Medina Championships which attracted an entry of 8 boats.

On the Saturday the first race was delayed for 2 hours until a thick fog bank carried in on the North-Easterly breeze eventually dispersed. In this first race a leading group of 3 boats broke away from the rest of the fleet. The race was eventually won by a local boat, Red Lady closely followed by another local, Shuna Too with visiting Seeaway in third.

On Sunday, light fickle winds initially from the North-West resulted in a very slow and prolonged second race with all boats just managing to complete a shortened course inside the time limit of 2.25 hours. This time Shuna Too won the duel with Red Lady to take first place with another local boat Glaros taking third. With the wind now from the North-East and dropping, a third race was started but had to be abandoned as the tide gradually drove the fleet backwards.

This left Shuna Too crewed by Bill and Grace Roberts as National Champions, with Red Lady helmed by David Mackay as runner up.

Results:
1st (58) - Shuna Too - Bill Roberts, East Lothian YC
2nd (175) - Red Lady - David McKay, East Lothian YC
3rd (61) - Glaros - Alastair Skinner, East Lothian YC
4th (87) - Seeaway - Rodger Harvey-Jameson, Dalgety Bay SC
5th (39) - Silent Wings - Davis Robertson & Mike Millar - East Lothian YC
6th (90) - Westaway - Becca Robertson - East Lothian YC
7th (112) - Moonraker - Jim Bruce - Blackness SC
8th (17) - Little Black Number - Sally Johnson - Forth Corinthian YC
