Islander Natasha Lambert BEM, multi award-winning disabled sailor and adventurer from Cowes, Isle of Wight set off from Gran Canaria yesterday (Sunday 22nd November) at approximately 13:00hrs for her latest challenge, the Atlantic...
Natasha has Athetoid Cerebral Palsy and gets around with the use of a wheelchair but thanks to her engineer dad, Gary and his genius, Natasha can sail with the use of 'Sip-Puff' technology. Simply put, Natasha uses her breath to work the controls on her boat.
Natasha and her family, including Mum Mandy, Dad Gary, and sister Rachel (along with a small crew) are joining the 2020 Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC). The ARC is the 2700NM route from Gran Canaria to St Lucia crossing the Atlantic over the next week or so. Tash's crew left Cowes from Cowes Yacht Haven in August onboard their Nautitech Open 46 - 'Blown Away'.
Natasha, also known locally as 'MissIsle' (named after her first boat) is taking part in this year's ARC; the latest in a long series of challenges to raise money for Cowes RNLI station, The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust and the MissIsle School of Sip and Puff. Donations are gratefully received through their Virgin Money site.
