Malcolm Reed, aged 28, passed away on Thursday 12th October in St Tropez, France, while competing in the Dragon Regatta. Malcolm was racing when he collapsed in the boat and could not be revived.
Having studied at the Southampton Institute Malcolm was a well known character in the local and surrounding area. He had always been a keen sailor, competing in many classes, including Laser 2s, Laser 4000s/5000s, ‘big boats’, and the match racing.
After seven years in Southampton he moved back to help run his parent’s hotel, Stirrups, three miles from Ascot. With limited access to the sea Malcolm took to playing Golf and Squash – introducing himself to a totally new group of people, and again making an everlasting impact on them.
In the last week an overwhelming number of people have been in touch with his family and friends. It has been a great comfort to all those that were closest to him that he meant a great deal to so many different people.
As everyone who ever met him will know he had an incredible amount of energy and enthusiasm at all times. He was both generous and kind. And, to coin one of his favourite phrases, ‘the guy was a legend’.
A large number of people have made clear their desire to join his family and pay their respects. The funeral will be held at Winkfield St. Mary’s, Friday 27 October 2006, at 2pm. Family and Friends are welcome to join Wilma, Karen, and Colin at Stirrups hotel afterwards.
The funeral directors are Lines Bannister of Ascot (Tel: 01344 620266) and they will be organising the collection.
