The best Nacra 15 sailors has travelled to lake Silvaplana in Switzerland's Grison region, not far from St. Moritz to sail the European Nacra 15 Championships this week.
Silvaplana, one of the most beautiful lakes in Switzerland is well known for its reliable thermal wind, The Maloja. Teams have been present and training all week with perfect conditions with 15 knots of wind and bright sunshine and since the timely relaxing of Swiss Covid restrictions. The racing, with four to six races per day runs until Sunday, when the European Champions will be determined in the predominantly mixed gender, youth multihull class.
Nine teams from the home country Switzerland are competing. All three top teams from the last 2020 Swiss championships including the winners Axel Grandjean et Marie Mazuay, second and third Alexander de Weck et Tibor Devaud and Alexis Pariat et Charlotte Lerch are present.
Other favourites come from France with the bronze medallist from the 2018 Barcelona World Championships, Thomas Proust et Clément Martineau. Another strong team from Belgium is Frédérique Van Eupen, winner of the European Championships in 2018 and aiming for a first place.
After a long period of no racing 2021 is now action packed for the Nacra 15 Athletes. These much anticipated Nacra 15 European Championships are a welcome restart to a vibrant, International racing scene.
Two further key 2021 Nacra 15 regattas are the World Sailing Youth World Championships hosted in Oman mid December. Where the best from each Nation goes head to head. Additionally as a final step in that journey there are the IN15CA World Championships hosted at La Grande Motte early November, a truly open event where any team can enter which is set to attract 100 plus Nacra 15 teams and may well form a final selection for those who aim to represent their country in Oman.
A complete list of the teams can be found here.
