The Poole Yacht Racing Association race from Poole to Lymington as a feeder to the Stoneways VPRS National Championships, took place to start off a long weekend of racing.

Starting in ENE shifting winds, a beat across Poole Bay, saw the MGC 27, Mojito leading the fleet. Whilst other smaller boats were overhauled by larger class One boats starting 5 minutes later Mojito held off the competition to round the windward mark off Bournemouth in the lead.

Then what started as a long fetch in increasingly shifting and lighter winds to the Solent soon turned into a second beat as the wind tracked right.

Dehler 36, Deity and Elan 333 Energy were soon leading the fleet, with a further shift taking them out to sea into stronger favourable tide but considerably less wind.

Mojito followed, however Ecume de Mer, QT and JPK 1010, Joy worked hard to stay north of a threatening cloud pattern, lifting and in reasonable pressure.

The Prima 38, Wild Thing had made good progress south and led into the Solent, with Joy now having pulled through into second on the water and QT leading the smaller Class Three and Four boats.

With wind then tracking left, the beat continued to the finish off Lymington. Wild Thing taking line honours with Joy saving their time to take the actual win under VPRS.

QT close on the heel of the Class one boats took both line honours and the win in for Classes Three and Four.

When all ashore Poole Sailing hosted a now infamous PYRA rendezvous at Lymington Town Sailing Club, being joined by others competing in the Stoneways VPRS Championships.

Following the Championships an early start saw the fleet racing back to Poole in blustery ENE conditions, three days later.

With the wind slowly moving around Westerly and increasing to gusts of 25 knots, spinnakers soon made way for whites and then a final beat into Poole.

It was the Prima 38, Wild Thing that was again to lead the way followed in by Joy, with Joy again saving their time to take the win.

A change of fortunes for the smaller boats saw Mojito convincingly win over QT.
