Marblehead GAMES event and Stan Cleal Trophy at Three Rivers Radio Yachting Club

This was the first GAMES event since June as clubs have been reluctant to start organising racing again for various reasons. This event was raced in a variable light north-easterly breeze and 11 races were sailed.

Rob Vice who won the M&S Marblehead District Ranking event at Chipstead last week, ran this event as Race Officer. He was pleased to see his own GRUNGE sailed by local skipper David Adam win the event from the Guildford entries, Roger Stollery & Martin Crysell.

The Three Rivers race team were very efficient as usual and their Commodore Graham Sadler thanked Rob for helping to run the event and the competitors for choosing to sail at Three Rivers.

Various courses used in a tricky wind direction Twelve competitors arrived at Norwich to take part in RM Ranking 5. The wind forecast was 5 - 8 knots from the South. The Vintage boats won the day With a roadside wind direction, the day was going to be somewhat challenging for a few. From the bridge end it was decided on 2 points out, but was this the right decision, as it looked like we had a run from both ends of the lake. Free sailing with Marblehead Vane model boats Initially we had 7 boats registered, but by the off, only 5 were dressed up ready to go. Racing nearly abandoned for vane-controlled Marbleheads The forecast was for showers and a wind strength for somewhere in the twenties, straight down the lake. A tricky weekend for reading the wind Datchet Water or Queen Mother reservoir is one of the main reservoirs for London and a feeder reservoir for the Queen Mary reservoir down the road.
