RC Laser TT series at Burwain Sailing Club

by Tony Wilson 22 Dec 2021 18:43 GMT 12 December 2021

The wind forecast for Burwain was about 10-12 knots from the South West direction and was correct, although only filtered through after about an hour for our requested start. Lots of standing around and guessing for the laid course and then we finally started with seven Burwain regulars and three guest skippers.

Only John Armstrong amongst us had actually sailed more than two events from the series, as he's pretty well centrally located to most clubs living in the middle of nowhere.

The first race obviously had us all in the A rig, but then fizzled out to B rigs as the racing went on and the wind picked up some more.

Shaun won the first race even though this isn't his local water. Usually the locals know all the swirls and rotor winds.

Shaun continued his winning streak on the two laps of the triangular course for us to complete four races by lunchtime.

The afternoon session required all on the second suit, for a further four races to complete eight in total for the favoured two discards.

Burwain Skippers enjoy their regular sailing each Sunday and have acquired a few more newbies over the last couple of months. They are a well-disciplined, nice and very friendly group and still manage to obey the rules. They've struck the perfect balance for an enjoyable day's sailing.

Results:

1 Shaun Holbeche 6 pts
2 John Armstrong 16 pts
3 Richard Whittle 22 pts

With a race within a race for the Johnson family The wind was blowing from the clubhouse direction for the ten RC Laser entries. It looked to be a stock 'B' rig all-dayer, but with the light patch at the entry point, a bit of extra sail cloth helps you get through the lulls. Posted on 6 Oct 2024
