It's the Eve of the Tiger, and Fisher's Vareo leads

Next event in the Seldén SailJuice Winter Series is the Tiger Trophy at Rutland Sailing Club, and it's looking like it will be another windy one...

More than 80 boats from 35 classes are preparing for a barnstorming weekend at Rutland Sailing Club for the Tiger Trophy. The fifth event in this season's Seldén SailJuice Winter Series, the Tiger has a fierce reputation, particularly because principal race officer Dave Wilkins is well known for going ahead with racing when others would probably choose to cancel.

It could be a good day for the trapeze boats - the 420s, 470s, Fireballs and 505s - to make hay. Or maybe the 29er, Ospreys, Contender or the triple-crewed National 18s to show what they can do in the big breeze forecast.

Defending champions from the past three years of the Seldén SailJuice Winter Series, Simon Horsfield and Katie Burridge, have made a late entry in their 2000. They are fast even in the breeze, so could they upset what should be a weekend for the trapeze boats? Not for the first time, staying upright could be the key to success at the Tiger.

Series Update

Seldén SailJuice Winter Series Round 4, the King George Gallop, saw a photo finish with the top three boats all tied on the same points.

After four events, the overall leaderboard is looking very tight, and with four to count still hard to call with a number of sailors in contention.

Last series runner up, Luke Fisher (RS Vareo - Emberton Park SC) jumps one place to lead overall, with the Burghfield Breezer winners Nigel and Andy Bird (Enterprise), dropping to second. Ben Flower (Laser - ILCA 7, Paignton SC) keeps third place. Down in 14th and 15th, individual event winners, Roger Gilbert and Ben McGrane (505 - Netley SC), and Tom Gillard and Rachael Gray (Merlin - Staunton Harold SC), both moved up two places having now competed in three events. Both these teams who have won multiple championships across several classes are competing at the Tiger Trophy this weekend, which will give them the four results to make their series, and potentially jump to the top of the leaderboard after the weekend.
