An amazing two days racing in Algies Bay for the NZ Cherub Fleet, contesting the Northland Cherub Championship, over the first two days of Auckland's Anniversary Weekend at the end of January.

Huge Congratulations to Hugo Davies on "Heart Attack" who even with having to put up with dealing with his father Ray Davies crewing for him managed a brilliant perfect score- card over a variety of conditions over the two days... Merrick got a well deserved break from his old man also and upgraded to the much nicer Brad Marsh to take out a closely contested second place in "Vamoose" and Tim Roper in the brand new Roper designed "Undercover" sailed a very consistent regatta to round out the podium with James Miller swinging her down with some impressive crewing.

Algies Bay turned on the conditions again and seven great races were sailed.

Thirteen boats contested the regatta over the weekend and with more then twenty other boats sailable in New Zealand and more then ten under build. It's a really exciting time for the 70year old class, that is now New Zealand's top restricted class

Next regatta at the end of the February, so for those that missed this one there is plenty of time to be ready!

Huge thank you to all the teams that could make it, the families who sacrificed a long weekend so we could have our regatta and most importantly to Allan Roper for organising the event, his team of volunteers helping and of course to all the sponsors who continue to help the growth of this cool thing we have going.

Sponsors for this event, in no particular order: NZ sailing .Mainstay Marine, Harken New Zealand, and of course the gennaker sponsors of Doyle Sails, Rail Blazer, Pic Insurance. None of this would have been possible with out the support of Phil Armstrong the SYC centerboard convener. Brett Howlet whose lovely launch we used as the start finish boat, super coach John Morgan for his ongoing tuning and racing development across the fleet
