B&G, the world's leading sailing navigation and instrument specialist, are pleased to announce their continued partnership with Team Malizia and Boris Herrmann until 2024.
Team Malizia was founded by Pierre Casiraghi in 2016 and headed by sailor, Boris Herrmann and co-skipper Will Harris - the team's mission is to compete in the biggest offshore races whilst promoting ocean science, protection and education around the world. In 2021 Boris was the first German to complete the Vendée Globe, finishing fifth and crossing the finish line after 80 days, 20 hours, 59 minutes and 45 seconds.
"The Vendée Globe taught me a lot about patience and confidence - confidence in people, confidence in the boat and confidence in the electronics, that's why we are pleased to continue our partnership with B&G" Herrmann said.
Boris and his team are now beginning a new 5-year program with a new IMOCA launching in July 2022 and a continued focus on ocean science and education. The new IMOCA will continue to use all-renewable energy on board, and the team will continue collecting ocean data including CO2 levels, temperature, salinity and PH in hard-to-reach ocean areas around the globe.
Boris and his team will be at the 2024 Vendée Globe and also plan to participate in The Route Du Rhum 2022, The Ocean Race 2023 and many more, the aim is 18 races across 15 countries. During all races, the team will also be collecting valuable ocean-data and promoting ambitious climate action. The new IMOCA 60 is currently in build and is being designed to allow better wave passage and higher average speeds. It will be fully equipped with the latest marine electronics for racing from B&G® and will also be assisting with testing and development of new B&G products.
"B&G® are extremely proud to be renewing our support of Boris and Team Malizia, after such a successful Vendée Globe. We are both very much aligned in our goals and we are dedicated to ensuring we operate more sustainably in order to protect our environment. We will continue working together to innovate and develop ideas for future technologies to support sailors and the ocean climate research mission, as well as to support them in successfully navigating their extensive race schedule" Simon Conder, Head of Brand -B&G commented.
