Strong and building winds at Starcross Yacht Club for Junior Winter Race training

Another good turnout of enthusiastic junior sailors on Saturday 12th March, in challenging (but mostly sunny!) conditions. As usual the sailors were split into two groups based on experience.
The more experienced group, sailing mainly Teras with some Toppers, a Feva and Laser, revelled in the strong winds. They sailed some follow-my-leader, as well as boat handling in strong winds and mark rounding. After a re-group ashore and some theory, they were back afloat again for another hour of fun, before a warming late-lunch and a final shore-based session.
Some of the less experienced group went afloat and enjoyed reaching to-and-fro in the strong winds, while others went out in a RIB or watched the excitement from the shore; before lunch and a theory session ashore.
By 1.30pm with the wind continuing to build, it was time for everyone to be off the water. It was a challenging day, and everyone did very well in the difficult conditions.
Big thanks to the Starcross RYA Race Coaches who ran a fantastic session, as well as the parent helpers.
The next Junior Winter Training is 26th March, and Starcross is running a Tera and Topper Open Meeting on 11th June, as well as the annual Junior Regatta 18th - 21st August. More details closer to the time on www.starcrossyc.org.uk. Save the dates!
