Starcross junior sailors were blessed with sunny conditions and nice wind on Friday 8th April, for the first of the 2022 Friday Evening Junior Sailing sessions.
Once again oversubscribed for 2022, the Friday sessions have been a key part of Starcross for many years, and this year have over 50 juniors from age 8 upwards signed up.
The club splits the juniors into 4 groups depending on age and experience. This week the beginner group had their first time on the water with instructors in Comet Trios and a Wayfarer.
The White Group were afloat in their fleet of toppers, along with the Yellow Start Racing group and the Pink Club Racing group who sailed a mix of Toppers, Teras and a Laser. Each group had its own RYA qualified instructor, drawn from SYC membership, parents and helpers, and one or two coach boats.
This year for the first time there is also a double-handed group, with some of the sailors in the club's fleet of four RS Fevas every three weeks to start to build double-handed skills and experience.
