420 class at the 2022 RYA Youth Nationals after Day 4

11-15 April 2022
After three days it was tight at the top of the 420s in the 2022 RYA Youth Nationals at Pwllheli. 4 races were added to the six already completed but nothing much has changed for the top 5 boats separated by just a handful of points with a further gaggle behind waiting for them to slip up.
The promised wind did not really turn up yesterday but there was always a little pressure which enabled 4 races to be fitted in.
Another 4 are scheduled today on what will be the final day. Henry Heathcote and Hector Bennett seem to have got over their so called January hoodoo and lead on net points and don't have a big discard either. They are just ahead of Alice Davis and Oliver Rayner who keep creeping up the leader board every day. Patrick Bromilow and Olivia Creasy are hanging on in third, and are the leading under 17 crew, with older siblings George Creasy and David Bromilow in fourth and Oliver Meadowcroft and Oscar Cawthorne dropping to 5th following a disqualification in the final race of the day.
Of the top 5 overall only one was a race winner on the day when George & David won the third race. Ella Lance & Will Martin won the first race of the day by a good margin escaping up the first beat from everyone else. Joe Warwicker and Hugo Valentine then won the second and in the final race Harry George and Ralph Cawthorne did their own horizon job on the fleet.
It will be a shoot out for results today. More wind has appeared this morning -from apparently nowhere in the forecast - so everyone expects to go on time. The second discard comes in with one race completed and the schedule allows for up to 4 races to complete the 14 race series.
