This weekend, an amazing Open Day kicked off the 2022 season at the Andrew Simpson Foundation (ASF) Portland Centre.
Over 600 people got out on the water Sailing, Kayaking, Paddle-boarding or taking part in our famous cardboard boat race which saw 25 entries!
We want to say a huge thank-you to Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy for supporting the event, and to everyone who came down to the centre to take part and help us to continue Andrew 'Bart' Simpson's legacy.
Alex Porter, ASC Portland Centre Manager, said:
"An incredible effort by the whole team and ASC Portland, working tirelessly to put on the best day possible. It was wonderful to see so many people in our local community getting involved and on the water. Nine years later and Bart's legacy is stronger than ever."
The Open Day was a fitting tribute to the extraordinary legacy of Andrew Simpson. It has been 9 years since Bart was lost. Bart was not only a devoted husband and father, but a fiercely competitive sportsman who still had time to inspire everyone around him to participate in the sport we love so much.
Bart is greatly missed by all that knew him, and many who were inspired by him but never met him. His memory lives on in the Andrew Simpson Foundation, in the Sailing Centre named after him in Weymouth which opened in 2014, and in his wife Leah and two beautiful sons.
Reflecting on all that has been achieved by the ASF over the past 9 years, we are proud to say that Bart's legacy has, and will always, continue to sail on. We hope you can join us this month in remembering Bart and the many great things that have been done in his name.
To honour Bart's legacy, and marking 9 years since we lost the great man, we are asking you to donate today to ensure that Bart's legacy continues to live on for many more years to come.
