On the 21st and 22nd May, St Mary's Loch Sailing Club hosted the fifth Scottish Topper Traveller event.

There were 15 main fleet Topper sailors and 4 regatta fleet sailors. The weather was challenging as the wind was shifting and gusting 8-20 knots each day, however we were still able to complete 8 races in total with 4 each day. At the end of day 1 it was very exciting with Thomas Loosely, Sophie Kennedy and Finley Briggs all sitting in first place, with 6 points in total each! After the first 4 races in the regatta fleet Isaac Lewis was first with Katherine Serrano not far behind in second place.

The second day was just as challenging as the first with the wind still shifty and most of the strong wind at the far end of the loch with the main fleet, but we still managed another 4 races. Results were still very close in the main fleet, however Thomas Loosely kept his nerve and took his first traveller event win with Finley Briggs only one point behind in second and Sophie Kennedy only 2 points behind in third place, with myself in 4th. In the regatta fleet Isaac Lewis managed to stay in first place with Katherine Serrano in second, Alasdair Collin in 3rd and Jess Price in 4th.

A special thank you to Rachel Jackson, the commodore of St Mary's Loch for making the weekend fantastic for both the sailors and parents. The personalised pizza cooking was a great highlight of the weekend. A special shout out to all of the safety crew on the ribs helping both the main and regatta fleet all weekend in very challenging conditions.

We're all looking forward to the next Traveller event at Largs Sailing Club on the 18th and 19th June.
