Musto Lark National Championships 2022 at Pentewan Sands Sailing Club - Day 3

by Samuel Bailey 3 Jun 2022 18:23 BST 1-4 June 2022

A light north-easterly wind met the fleet for day 3 of the Lark National Championships with calm conditions.

Race 1 saw the majority of the fleet favour a pin end start before tacking off to the right side of the course. The sausage-triangle course proved difficult with many sailors thirsty for more power and battling for positions.

Spotting the wind ahead was crucial to climb the ladder with Team Alan & Tom Krailing reaching the windward mark first to take a lead on the rest of the fleet downwind.

The battle for positions continued but it was Team Krailing who managed to take the win with John Brickwood & Andy Hicks in second and Alice Davies & Bettine Harris in third!

A real compliment to Team Davies & Harris after winning this years Lark Nationals Youth Competition and sailing the New Class Demo Boat 2540! Well Done Girls!

Race 2 saw the race area subject to even lighter winds but nevertheless the fleet attempted to start! With the pin heavily in favour, the fleet had no doubts a general recall was coming! The competition quickly changed to conversations of: "How far over were you?"

Sadly, the wind continued to die before the next sequence could begin leaving the race officer to abandon with more instructions ashore.

Surf landing proved challenging for the fleet but thankfully no damage. Almost as if it was planning, the fleet were invited to 'Pasties & Pints' (or lots of water!) back at the club in anticipation of the wind returning.

Sadly the wind did not return to the race course after several hours of waiting so the well-respected decision to abandon all racing was made. Meanwhile, the beach was filled with families happily building sand castles, surfing and SUPing.

Now ashore the fleet is preparing itself for Crews Union, the kids disco with DJ TJ, BBQ, fancy dress and the band including a former member of Pink Floyd.... How much fun can we pack into one evening!

In conclusion, a challenging days racing before tomorrows fore cast of 20knts and the tables turn to the heavy weights!
