The penultimate event of the 21/22 Rooster North Topper Traveller Series took place on Saturday 21st May at Coniston Sailing Club.

Sailors were quick to register with the new online registering system ready for a good days Sailing. Initially the forecast looked very promising for the event with an average of around 10 gusting 20kts, however this was very changeable on the day.

Coniston's commodore warmly greeted the sailors and with the briefing completed sailors were rigged and ready to go. On launching the wind was as forecasted and I for one was really happy about this however as the first start dawned the wind started to drop a daunting prospect for me.

Race one was about to begin, the sailors gathered on the start line and we were all too eager as we all got general recalled. On the second attempt, I went to the starboard biased end and this time most of us got away cleanly, however some had to go back for individual recall. The wind was extremely shifty throughout the first race with Erin (Scaling Dam) finishing 1st, Kyla (Covenham) 2nd and Rosanna (Budworth) 3rd.

The winds were looking more promising for race 2 and all the competitors got away cleanly off the line. The winds helped the heavier sailors do better this race with Chris (Ripon) coming 1st, Erin (Scaling Dam) 2nd and Lewis (Leigh and Lowton) 3rd.

After two races the sailors came back in for lunch with Coniston's club galley providing hot pots and jacket potatoes for hungry sailors and parents. Fed and refreshed sailors headed out for race 3. The wind had picked up over lunch and race 3 got under way. Some large chop coming down the lake created some tricky sailing conditions when combined with the wind shifts.

Lewis (Leigh and Lowton) Finished 1st, Chris (Ripon) 2nd and Jasper (Hollingworth) 3rd. The wind held up for race 4 with some close racing up the first beat. However Chris (Ripon) got away on the downwind to lead the rest of the race and seal the win. Jasper (Hollingworth) Finished 2nd and Lewis (Leigh and Lowton) 3rd.

Overall Chris (Ripon) won the event and with second and third tied on points, Erin (Scaling) took second on countback and Lewis (Leigh and Lowton) 3rd. Thanks to Coniston for hosting the event and providing great food. Next up is Penine for the last event of the series.
