Disabled owner achieves milestone ocean crossing

Philippe Guglielmetti, who was left disabled following a serious stroke he suffered in 2015, set a goal to captain his own boat across an ocean. He did just that, achieving his goal last week when he brought his Nordhavn 40 from Miami to Tarragona, Spain. It was an incredible feat, not only given the circumstances surrounding Guglielmetti's physical health, but especially taking into account that the entire second half of the trip - a total of 18 days at sea - was completed without stabilization.

The road to recovery has been paved with Guglielmetti's own gritty determination, a tactic he uses to help reach physical goals he has set for himself since he lay in a Paris hospital six years ago. With this latest achievement, Guglielmetti presents as an example for both fully-abled and lesser-abled folks who possess an adventurous spirit.

Guglielmetti hopes to tell his story so it can be used not only as a source of inspiration but also to bring attention to stroke awareness.
