M32 World Championship at Cascais, Portugal - Day 1

by M32 Class 7 Oct 2022 06:30 BST 3-9 October 2022

The first day of four in the championship gave a good taste of the excitement ahead. Five different winners in the five races and 1 point separating the top 4 teams tells the story of an incredible close fleet.

Tied at the top of the leaderboard is defending World Champions Convexity with skipper Don Wilson and Extreme2 with Dan Cheresh immediately followed by Pieter Taselaar's Dutch team, Bilksem, and PJ Postma's China One Ningbo a point behind.

At the end of the day, Pieter Jan Postma, helm of the Chinese team, praises the good performance of his team "today we had a new guy on board, so on our boat it was a bit of getting used to each other and I'm really happy how all the team performed, it's good to be in the mix" and highlights the fierce competition "We are all tight together, the top 4 boats, so there's a lot to play for. It's tight racing with this bigger fleet".

Until Sunday, 19 races are planned, to decide the fight for the World Title of the M32 class, which will undoubtedly be very disputed: among the 55 sailors present, there are many Olympic athletes, World Champions and sailors from renowned circuits, from Match Racing to the America's Cup, not forgetting SailGP.

For Friday, 5 more races are scheduled, with conditions similar to today, promising another great and close sailing day.
